✔ On-water boat towing
Optional coverage pays for boat towing assistance, fuel delivery, soft ungroundings, and jump starts.
✔ Comprehensive and collision
Comprehensive and collision are distinct coverages designed to protect your boat from damage and loss. Comprehensive coverage helps safeguard against unexpected events beyond your control, like vandalism or weather-related damage. Collision coverage, on the other hand, protects your watercraft in the event of an accident involving another boat or object.
✔ Full replacement cost
With full replacement cost coverage added, your comprehensive and collision coverage will cover the cost to restore your watercraft to its pre-accident condition—or better.
For example, if you hit a submerged object and damage your 10-year-old motor, it might be valued at $3,000 but costs $8,000 to replace. If repairs aren’t possible, we’ll replace it, saving you $5,000 in depreciation costs.
✔ Bodily injury & property damage liability
Bodily injury liability protects you if you're responsible for injuring others in a boating accident. Additionally, liability coverage helps pay for repairs or replacement of damaged property, such as other watercraft or structures, and covers legal expenses if you’re sued.
For example, if you accidentally collide your boat into a pier while docking, causing significant damage and injuring people on the pier, liability insurance will cover the cost of repairs and medical expenses, up to your policy’s limits.
✔ Uninsured/underinsured boater (UB/UIB)
If you're struck by an uninsured or underinsured boater, UB/UIB (Uninsured/Underinsured Boater) coverage will cover your injuries and damages up to the limits of your policy.
For instance, if another boater without insurance collides with your vessel, injuring everyone on board, and cannot cover the damages out of pocket, UB/UIB will step in to pay for the costs the at-fault boater would have been responsible for, up to your selected limits.
✔ Medical payments
You can choose from a range of coverage limits to help pay for medical bills if you or your passengers are injured in a boating accident or while on your boat.
For example, if you accidentally cut your hand with a sharp hook while fishing and need stitches, resulting in a costly medical bill, your health insurance might not cover it due to an unmet deductible. With medical payments coverage, you can use your policy to cover the expense without worrying about a deductible.
✔ Fuel spill
Fuel spill coverage takes care of cleanup costs for fuel spills, regardless of how they occur—whether from a sunken boat, a leaking tank, or an accident at the fueling station.
For example, if your boat sinks in open water and releases fuel, this coverage can help pay for the cleanup and reduce environmental damages, up to your policy’s limits.
✔ Fishing equipment or carry-on items
For lost or stolen items, you could be eligible for replacement cost coverage, meaning no depreciation is deducted. This includes up to $10,000 for fishing equipment like tackle boxes or fishing rods, and up to $10,000 for personal belongings such as scuba gear, phones, or other items you bring onboard.
For example, if $1,000 worth of fishing equipment is stolen from your boat but has depreciated to a value of $500, we’ll cover the full cost to replace it with brand-new equipment of a similar model.
While boat insurance offers valuable protection for a wide range of risks, there are certain situations and types of damage it typically doesn’t cover. These exclusions often relate to maintenance issues or natural wear and tear that occur over time. Common exclusions include:
These exclusions emphasize the importance of routine maintenance and proper care to keep your boat in top condition. While your policy can protect against many unexpected events, regular upkeep is your best defense against these uncovered risks.
